Krampus is a folklore creature I have always wanted to create my own version of. He is heavily based on a combination of other depictions that can be found online.
Below, I go through the steps of the process of making the entire transformation that is thoroughly described in the tutorial.
I used my sketch on the top left corner as a guide.
I sculpted the entire face of the creature using clay giving plenty of volume and emphasis on the wrinkles.
I powdered the sculpt and applied many layers of latex on top of each other thus creating a thick latex mask. I peeled it off and painted it in greyish tones with yellow and red undertones.
I also glued a lock of hair from a wig below the chin.
For the teeth I used polymorph plastic.
After submerging it in boiling hot water I sculpted small pieces with my fingers in the desirable shapes.
I carved small lines for texture and painted them with brown and yellow bodypaint. I painted the gums red and stuck the teeth on.
I created a negative mould for the tongue using a big piece of clay inside of which I dug up the shape.
I also created a lid for the top and gave it some texture. I made fx gelatin, warmed it up and poured it inside the mould. I pressed on the lid and put it in the fridge.
I used air drying clay for the basic shape of the horns.
I wrapped it up in tin foil and layers of plaster gauze. After the plasted gauze was dry I took it off the horn and patched up the cut. I used more air drying clay on top to create more texture and I painted it black in the base, ashy brown in the middle and white on the edge. I repeated the process for the other horn.
In the end I stuck them on a solid hair band.
The ears were made in a similar way as the mask.
I sculpted them using air drying clay. Then I sculpted the desired shape on top, powdered them and applied layers of latex. I peeled them off, powdered them and painted them the same colors as the mask.
His costume mainly consists of two big sleeves made out of burlap and another burlap sack cut in the middle and thrown around the shoulders. For the bottom I sewed a pair of faux fur pants. I groomed the fur around the calves and tinted them a darker grey. I used a stuffed plastic bag to create a hunch.
For the application I started by covering my eyebrows. I stuck the latex ears on using spirit gum and I painted around my eyes and mouth black because these parts will be visible with the mask on. I stuck the forehead part of the mask and later the rest of it using spirit gum. I stippled latex on top of the edges to blend them out. I darkened the eyes and sides of my face with black bodypaint and eyeshadow. I painted new wrinkles on with light concealer and shaded in between. I stuck pieces of hair around my jawline and painted my neck dark with white strokes to imitate hair.
